London Day 3 :Part 2

After a very thoughtful and dreamy end on Part 1,
the journey continues with
:

Part 2.

After a scenic walk around the castle,
we went in for King Henry the VII:
Dressed to Kill exhibition.

It was interesting to see row after row
of King Henry's armor and battle weapons on display..!
...so literally, he was dressed to kill =p
Most of the exhibits encompassed his battle armor
as well as his jousting equipment
-you can read up about jousting here,
should you not know what it is =)
Since I grew up with Anglo Saxon stories
of Arthur's knights and jousting,
it was exciting to see the swords, the lance,
and the shield with different coat of arms.

After King Henry's armor exhibition,
we proceeded to the Jewel House
to view the Crown Jewels.
...... & boy was the line long!
....but it was worth the wait. =)

*

Outside, we encountered
some models dressed up in the post-Medieval era.

*check out the man's light purple stockings! =p

I loved walking along the castle streets...
...and the hours just flew by.
*excited voice* This is exactly the tent I read and saw that King Arthur used!!!

...the castle streets were so full of life,
I could imagine a whole town residing here
during the feudal times.
....and what a moat!!!!
Again, medieval stories and pictures
were flashing in my mind.
I imagined how they used it in battle
when defending the castle walls.

Again, as expressed in my first post;

I found the architecture fantastic.
Walking along the castle streets,
gazing at the towers, feeling the cobbled stones..

That was something that felt very deep and special to me.
Somehow, I really connected with being there.

Perhaps It's the influence of reading a fair bit of British
medieval days be it in stories or from a historical perspective.

At about mid afternoon,
we came across this section of the castle
and crossed over here
-where we could see London Bridge =)
:)

Ooooh and after that we went for dinner with
our good friend Chun Howe at a Chinese Restaurant in London.

Delicious!
*all the good pictures are with him.

After that, we went to Trafalgar Square.
I managed to climb up!
Heeee :D
*I slipped on a pair of leggings to enable the act.

.Parliament.
.The eye of London.

Sigh... I London :)

London Day 3 : Part 1

Hey :)
Sarah Kate is back with
the London series!

and today I'll continue with
Day 3, Part 1.

*

Day Three:

The morning began beautifully
with the golden sun ascending the blue sky
dotted with sheep-like puffy clouds.
The air was cool and crisp,
and a gentle breeze would float by now and then..
...perfect weather for a summer day out. :)

After a hearty breakfast of toast and English tea,
we traveled by train to the Tower of London.

Just outside the train station was an ice-cream van,
and I simply could not resist.

..lovely!

Across where were standing was the castle..
.....what a lovely view. =)

.Chong.

Being epicureans, we decided to stop for lunch
and bought a gigantic set of fish and chips.
The sun was really intense,
so I had difficulty smiling and opening my eyes.
=(
*2nd attempt =p

I saw this couple having their lunch
perched up here up on the ledge......cute :)

.castle grounds.
*seeing all this made my mind race with
Arthur and the knights of the round table
and all those exciting Anglo Saxon stories I read as a child.
It really felt like I walked out of one of
the storybooks I have right out to a castle.
=D

.the tower shop.
.with the castle guard.
I loved walking along the cobbled streets =)

.c.
I so love British seals/signs of royal households =)

*like this one!=)

.chong & sarahkate. And the architecture is just fantastic.

This is for my people's who just lost somebody..

This is for my people's who just lost somebody
Your best friend, your baby, your man, or your lady
Put your hand way up high
We will never say bye (no, no, no)
Mamas, daddies, sisters, brothers, friends and cousins
This is for my peoples who lost their grandmothers
Lift your head to the sky 'cause we will never say bye....

*
The past week saw me come to know
of two people who went home to heaven
-both in unexpected differing ways.

*

It got me thinking......
Life is so fleeting, so....... fragile.
You never know, when time's up.

So treasure your life and the lives around you.
Live each day to the fullest.
Withhold not any good thing,
and do what kind deed you can do today,
for there might not be a tomorrow to count on.

Though a sadness fills my heart
when I think of the tragic end that plays
though in my mind,
I smile cause I know in Jesus Christ you've
reached a better place,
and that all tears have been wiped away
as you reach the heavenly permanent stay.

-Lift your hand to the sky, cause we will never say goodbye.

London Day 1: Maids of Honour & Kew Gardens

Hello there!
I've taken a long break
from my summer notebook
as I've been away on
a long summer holiday! =).

These few pages will journal my
experiences, thoughts and memories at the
Maids of Honour Pastry House
& the Kew Gardens in London.

*

We planned to visit the Kew Gardens
the first thing in the morning,
but it began to drizzle and we decided to stop for
some English tea and pastries down the road
at the Maids of Honour.
Outside the Maids of Honour.
I loved the feel of this shop.
Rich in history (The Maid of Honour cake has
been part of Richmond history for nearly 300 years),
the shop is quaintly built and furnished as well.
Delicious =).
Top Left: Scones with Double cream. Sinful.
Bottom Left: The Maids of Honour pastry.
This delicious light and sweet pastry
dates back to the 15th Century.
*click here to read the history*

If you are in Richmond, London,
I would highly recommend
a stop at the Maids of Honour!

*

After our delicious tea we headed
to the Kew Gardens.
=)

If you didn't know,
the first rubber tree that was brought
and introduced to Malaysian soil
came from the Kew Gardens in London.
I recalled this fact from our History Studies
back in High School.
Back then, I always wondered
where and what Kew Gardens was like.

Hence I was indeed excited to explore
the Royal Botanical Gardens with
the world's largest collection of plants.

Kew Palace.

The lake at Kew.
(In the background is the Kew Museum).
I loved the lake. It was simply beautiful.

Another glass house.
I love these flowers.

Inside the Waterlily house
were these giant lily pads.
They are really huge!
Huge enough to sit in, I think.
*But i don't think the lily pad
would take the weight =p.

This was amazing.
A field of lavender.
Just imagine,
rows and rows of lavender!
It was wonderful to see and smell.
Chong & I =).

Roses.

I love the shot of this flower.

Enjoying the gardens =).

I was excited to be standing beneath
a giant dinosaur-looking tree.

Enjoying my stroll through the gardens =).

The Pagoda.
Built in 1762, I found it to be an impressive structure.

The last place we visited was
the Japanese Gateway
-a miniature Japanese Garden.

All in all,
I loved my time at Kew Gardens.
It was a pleasant experience to be walking around
and enjoying each different part of the garden
in the cool sunny weather.

If you love greenery, plants, flowers,
and knowing about plants,
I suggest you drop by Kew Gardens
(if you have the opportunity).
Botanists and plant lovers
spend weeks there!

Signing off,
sarahkate

A dedication to my sister, Elizabeth Kay: On your wedding day.

Elizabeth Kay Lee!

Your wedding day is slightly
over a month from today,
but thoughts of it are fresh in my mind.
I can still remember you retuning with all
the wonderful flowers and how we
assembled a Lee team to craft the bouquets.

The proud work of the Lee Siblings + the team :)
Making all the birdy hanging decorations
was fun too. I'm so glad they looked great.

Speaking of preparations,
It was so exciting to see you get ready for the big day.
It was even more exciting to be in the car with you-
I was like WOAH, this is it.
My sister is almost at the church.
Almost married.
You look so cute here I couldn't help but put this up for memories.
You have the same 'Cute/Naughty Lisa' face-
the one in most of your toddler pictures. Kawai =).

*
Then the procession began....
......and I took a deep breath.

All I could think was:
'Don't trip! Don't trip!!! Concentrate.'
and
'She's getting married. Now.'

Lisa-mon,
I have looked to you many times through
the years for counsel, advice, love, and approval.

As I saw you look towards the new chapter in your life,
all these things came to my mind.
I will never forget the
joy and happiness captured in this picture.
=)

Even as you said your wedding vows I was deep in thought.

I think I was thinking about the song that Tim and I
were about to present: In our Hearts.

I wrote the music for it a few weeks before my exam,
intending to put words to it after my papers.
I penned down the lyrics a week or two before the wedding,
and Tim and I practiced a few days before.

Here's the lyrics of the song,
should we forget.

IN OUR HEARTS
Composed and written by Sarah Kate Lee
Performed by: Sarah Kate Lee & Timothy Lee

Elizabeth,
We bring to you
A song to sing
A note to ring
A smile to bring to you
For all that we've been through

All the memories that we shared
All the fun and joy and laughs we had
All that we hold dear
So we'll keep you near
In our hearts.

Cause Dear Lisa,
We love you,
We want to thank you for
your life that has
been a blessing to us
So we'll keep you near
In our hearts.

I'm sorry, If i made you sad
Hold my hand, let me take it back
As you start this new walk in life
We are happy for you
And we want to say-

That you will always be our sister
Elizabeth, that we hold dear
be blessed in your new life
As David's wife

So David as, Liz chose you
We are glad that you
chose her too
Cherish your life together
And we'll keep you near
In our hearts.

So we'll keep you near,
In our hearts.

I didn't expect you and David to cry!
I was actually quite shocked to
see so many people crying.
I didn't put much thought to the response
when i wrote and sang it,
I just concentrated on expressing what
was in my heart. =)

Just as you knelt at the alter to pray,
remember that God is your foundation.
And continue to live each day with joy and love!

The bridal party

&

Our fami-LEE =)

It was a good day.
=)

I love you, jie.
